Fresh Ink Shorts

Fringe is here and so is Fresh Ink Shorts. I attended a media preview of the show and I was pleasantly surprised of how well these stories went well. Showcasing at the Skinner Studio at Plays and Players located at 1714 Delancey Place. What you can expect and my review on whether you should add this to your most watch of The Fringe.

Short Ink Stories

There are 10 stories all together. They are separately induced and well written stories that were absolutely intriguing. I loved the plays and I think that this is a great watch for Fringe. The actors/actresses were outstanding and many of them float from one story to another showcasing their range which I really enjoyed. I won’t give a synopsis of each of the plays. I leave that for you to see. However one of the things that stood out to me was how the plays incorporated actors who not only have range but are truly diverse. From doing quite a few reviews at plays there are many times where the dynamics of the plays only appeal to one audience. These short plays allows for the actors/actresses to touch on various topics such as marriage, dating, politics and more.

If one story isn’t your stick there will be another one that will. Variety is the spice of life.

Short Ink Stories Fast Paced Productions

Since all of the plays are generally separated out and do not build upon one another it gives almost an improv show vibe. The setting of the physical scenes from one story to a next giving such a rush to the audience. You are sitting there wondering what to expect. The focus is on the acting versus the production. I like this. I’m not saying that heavy production lacks acting in other plays. I am saying that the way that each of the actors match each other’s energy is highly seen and appreciated.

What to Expect During your Time

Make sure you are there in time. There is a bar that you can grab drinks from. Make sure you bring, cash, card or electronic payments. It is also suggested that you get there at around 730 before the show starts at 8pm. We walked about 2-3 flights to be seated. Keep that in mind as you plan your evening. The drinks at the bar were amazing but I would limit to one to avoid being too tired during the show. Also the curtain will go up nightly at 8pm. So plan around that.

I was coming from another event and came closer to curtain. I wouldn’t highly suggest it. Masks are optional. The space is set for a smaller and intimate audience so if you want to wear a mask for that purpose please do. You will spend about 75 minutes during your time and I would suggest parking at the lot that is around the corner from the theater. I spent a little under $20 or find street parking.

Bob Browserbox and Fresh Ink Shorts

You may remember Bob from QVC of “In the Kitchen with Bob.” He is definitely a household name. My first impression from our brief encounter was how welcoming and nice. You could tell how extremely proud he was of this venture. What I loved about these plays is that it not only showcased Bob’s work but other writers. As a writer myself I know how hard it is to get your creativity and talent to be seen. Bob made these short plays to highlight overlooked artist, and writers.

They shine brilliantly together. Fringe is about showcasing the arts and talents and both are at Fresh Ink Shorts. Don’t sleep on Bob he not only is known for his work for Fresh Ink Shorts, but he has one of his works coming to the big screen featuring Morgan Freeman and Cole Hauser soon. He is an award winning, director, actor, writer, and producer.
