Self Care for Business Owners

It’s easy to be in full time business mode 24/7. This is essentially even more easier if you play all of the business roles. Remember that Rome was not built in a day. You will need breaks. Boundaries are going to be your best friend. In this season setting clear defined working hours is essential to your own personal wellness. Learning what is a priority and what can wait at a later time will help you to relieve the stress of supply and demand.

You are the Priority

As a business owner there are many who are counting on you. However if you too aren’t eating well, resting, using self care, or putting stop times in your day you will find yourself drained. Many successful businesses can fail not because of bad products but because burn out is real. How you take care of yourself is crucial. Outsourcing the help you need will be a game changer. Also leaning on your strengths will aid in better care of you and the success of your business. For your weaknesses, take a class, find someone to collaborate with who possesses the skills you don’t.

Rest Days

Resting while doing anything helps to renew strength and mental wellness. Businesses can thrive better when there are built in rest days. Going hard for 24 hour stretches hurts you and your businesses over time. Make some or place built in rest days. Over the past 2 years more businesses have shut down days or even weeks to allow their workers some retreat days. If this is not in your business model consider adding it into your business plan. Also include employee appreciation days as well. You and those assisting you to make the business a success will work harder and more efficient when they feel more appreciated.

Revamp the Plan

Like life things don’t always work as efficiently as we plan. Be willing to revisit and rework the plan when necessary. This is the word pivot that everyone has been using for the last 2 years. The ability to adapt to a growing changes that happen without warning is a way of life. If you’re a brick and mortar business who didn’t rely on a website or social media- adapt. If you’re an Internet based company make sure that you are constantly updating your website. Make things super easier for your consumer.

Develop a Plan

What’s the way you envision your business to be? Stick to the plan and be okay with also having to revamp it if need be! Don’t get so caught up in being perfect. Be clear about what you want to have happen and make it happen! You won’t always have the perfect plan. Sometimes it’s about just doing what needs to be done! You will get better as times goes on! You got this! Start the business. Don’t give up on your dreams.

As we are in the last stretch of this year, be willing to keep yourself and your employees a priority. Don’t promise things that don’t align with the wellness of your employees or yourself. Things aren’t always going to go as plan but take pride in making sure that before you put a product out that it’s essentially able to maintain it without losing a sense of wellness for yourself and those underneath you.
