Mental Wellness and Self Care Queen

Black History

Happy Wednesday. It’s time for another mid week check in. So we are in a new month and although its the shortest month there is a lot to be accomplished. Also during this month we celebrate Black History Month as well as Valentine’s Day. Here are a few things I am working through for the month.

Self Love

I know we get tired of hearing about self love but no matter if you are in a relationship with someone else you need a strong basic core of self love. Self love holds and carries you when the other areas of your life don’t meet your expectation. I struggled with self love for a long time. I used to expect my husband to take the lead in loving me enough that loving me wasn’t as high in my life. But life has a way of teaching you that if you don’t love yourself and place stock in others loving you in ways you should be loving yourself, you will hurt yourself in the long run. I bumped my head in loving myself and now I take charge in it. I am an active participant in self love and teach my children to do the same.

Black History Month

This means so much to me to be a great champion of encouraging others to see value in things, companies, and arts and more surrounding Black History. I grew up in a diverse living situation. My high school was diverse. But I remember as a little girl being called a Nigger. It was in the 2nd grade. The pain I felt crushed me. I was a straight A student and being told that education wouldn’t work out for me. How can someone look at a beautiful and smart girl and devalue them so easily.

Black History

I promised myself that I would make sure my children didn’t feel that. I know as they grow up they will deal with racism and microaggressions but in our home is love and understanding. So to those who aren’t Black and don’t understand the significance of being upheld and loved on when history has blown so many harsh realities-do better in empathy. No one should be devalued based upon skin color.

Time Management

I have been watchful of what I give my time to. Making list and being organized is beautiful. However doing things like willingly giving my time away to others for no apparent reason is not okay with me. I started looking at my time and where I was spending it and attempting this month to be a good steward over it. For instance I start my day with intentions.

Wednesday time management

This week I have been taking time to compartmentalize my cleaning. Instead of tryin to clean the whole house in one day or over a weekend, breaking up my tasks. The one day I cleaned the second floor. One day it was the first floor. Laundry was broken up too followed by cleaning both bathrooms the other. This is working out. I also try to meal prep on the weekends. If it doesn’t happen, I will meal prep at least 2-3 meals in the morning while the kids are getting ready.

Bristol Riverside Theatre

I attended the production of I and You. It was magnificent. A stretch of events at the end will leave your mouth open. It is in production until February 13th. Read my review. Also be sure to support the arts right now. Donate, or get tickets. Also be prepared to show your vaccination card and keep your masks on.

Anejo Taco Tuesday

Taco Tuesday will never the the same. We went to a media preview of their all you can eat tacos and it was a game changer.

They have tacos from all palettes. I had the Mushroom and Crispy Cauliflower and they were good. The mushroom one had such a great kick. It wasn’t too spicy but the sauce was amazing.

Their happy hour menu is also extended. The special runs every Tuesday from 5-9pm. Also do yourself a favor and try the churros with dipping sauces. You won’t be amazed.

I hope you have a great week. There are some books coming out this month that I can’t wait. My pre-order of Jayne Allen’s Black Girls Must Be Magic is arriving tomorrow. I am a little stalkerish of this book. If you loved her last one you must try this one.
