Mental Wellness and Self Care Queen

It’s a little rainy day start in Philadelphia! It’s not cold but brisk. As I looked out my window this morning I was inspired. Storms come in various sizes and intensities. As we learn to navigate them we have to find ways of taking care of ourselves!

Getting Grounded

This is the part that hurts the most. Being grounded means being disciplined. The second something big comes in our lives we have a tendency to stop moving with the same intentions we did before the storm. I’m talking about how we eat, drink, exercise, and self-care. Those things go right out the window. Taking care to stay grounded and not lose your essence is super important. Things will come and go to knock you off your trail! Stay the course!

Maintaining Healthy Habits

There will be no doubt during a storm no matter how disciplined you are that you may find yourself using unhealthy coping skills. What are the ways did you maintain healthy habits before the storm? For me I can always tell when things aren’t right when I take notice of my eating habits. When I lean more into processed vegan foods instead of preparing them. I notice when I don’t drink enough water and have gone hours without it. It signals that my thought process has taken over and I’m simply existing instead of walking with intentions. Whatever you’re healthy habits are dig deep! If you need more inspiration here’s the blog on self love!

Gratitude Is Necessary

How many of us throw gratitude out the door? I have and I’m sure if you’re honest you have too. Gratitude isn’t a magic trick to get the storm to stop! It keeps you while you’re going through. Knowing that you’re still protected, still loved, still strong is what you’re in need of reminding yourself in tough times. It’s imperative to keep your wits about you. You need to remain in a state of gratitude as you progress through challenging times.

Plan to Self-Care

I know we are super busy. When a storm comes often times we just add it to another level of our life. It’s important to also be sure to make time for yourself. Life isn’t going to stop handing out drama. It’s key to survival by making more time for self-care! Self-care isn’t about bubble baths and nail appointments. Self-care is the ability to stop for a moment and give yourself whatever you need. For me I’ve done things like allowed my kids kindle time while I sorted something out. Gasp, clutch your pearls. Yea sometimes self-care is aligning the people around you so you can catch your breath. For all of those who cringe at that, cringe on!

So as storms happen and unfortunately they will, you can’t wait until it’s over to take care of yourself. You can’t just simply exist while things are happening to you. You need to take care of you during it. Meditate, prayer, seek therapy, eat healthy, drink your water, and keep moving. You know your routine better than anyone. If you’re noticing that the simple things that you normally would do you’re not doing, take a step back. Invest your time wisely back into you! Notice and watch if you’re withdrawing from life itself. No longer interested in the things that bring you joy is a sign of depression of which I suggest talking to someone!
