Mental Wellness and Self Care Queen

We got out! Yes our whole quarantined family got out of the house for the first time since March. The pure enlightenment on the kids face said it all. We have and are still doing our part by staying home and managing our health. Let me be clear before we start this blog, we made the decision after consulting with my children’s pediatrician and they gave us specifics on how to manage the kids with their conditions.

We took our sights on the newly constructed Philly River Stroll. 3 new eateries that are open, outside and social distance spots to get out and enjoy food. So was it worth it? Yes and here’s why:

Outside Air

We went to the Cherry Street Pier. We choose that location because it’s familiar to the kids. We also wanted to make our first outing as safe and familiar as possible. My kids have attended many functions and events at Cherry Street. I also like how open but enclosed it is. There’s one way out and one way in. So for me as a parent it just gives me that much more security. You come in and you are greeted. They ask you if you have reservations (and you must have them) and there are markers where to stand! If you’re looking to make a reservation you can do so on Resy.

Once they check ids, you’re given a wrist band if you’re over 21 and older and you and your party may go and find seats. Just a heads up, there is no moving seats. You must find a table big enough for your party. Masks are a must. Keep them on any time you move about. It’s encouraged to bring hand sanitizer, water and wipes. I came prepared. Oh and back to the seats. As soon as we got inside we went looking for seats, I saw a party try to move the seats and they were asked to stop immediately. That led me know that we were going to be fine. They have workers that check to make sure social distancing is happening throughout.

Mask OFF

Yes after you are seated, you can take your mask off. We did a lot of explaining to our children about what to expect and our personal expectations. For instance take your mask off when you sit, wipe your area with the sanitizing wipes I brought, and use hand sanitizer soon after. They did a great job following instructions.

Self Serve

There are no waiters or waitresses. After seating yourself, you can go to the Food Area and order. You will be immediately be given your drink orders. Food orders will be picked up at another location. I liked that. This way you can limit the workers in one area. One tip, try to use your card. It’s safer but they will take cash. Also tip well! Everyone is working together to keep you and your loved ones safe never forget that!

Food

The food is going to be more small bites. So if you’re looking for heavier meal options you can try Morgan’s Pier, or the Water Garden at Spruce Street Harbor Park. We had the options that we liked. I fed the kids prior to going just in case they were being picky. Also take note we went at 8pm so we could see the lights and it wouldn’t be as hot! It was a perfect night. The kids elected to eat hot dogs, chips, cookies and fruit! To see the lights and behind the scenes check my Instagram stories and see on the Philly Philly story highlights as well!

I elected to have the White Bean Hummus and drinks.

Yes there are plenty of items on the menu:

DrinksI started with Rosé. I just needed something familiar. Also keep in mind my stress levels have now been quieted that I’ve seen how well everything was going. Everyone there was aware of one another. No one was in each other’s personal space. Although I had taken the kids out late, the surrounding adults were great. Also in case you need to bring your dog, you can just remember to keep your dog on a leash at all times.

Also Mainstay Independent Brewing was on tap. I took a tour during Christmas time to see how they made their beers. So I would say I couldn’t leave without having some.

Mainstay Love your Park Pale Ale and Kurant Bee’s Cider

Final Grade and Take Aways:

I give Cherry Street Pier an A. Here is why they get the Grade:

Family Environment

Social Distancing

Clean Environment: they clean the bathrooms constantly. Trust me with children I took at least 3 separate bathroom breaks with them

Great food options

Views

We were able to see all of the boating and lights that overlook the city.

So we won’t be out that much out of abundance of caution. However having this be one of our only times out was worth it. Also we walked past Blue Cross RiverRink Summerfest. They have brought the beach to Philly but of course limited numbers and social distancing is the only way to enjoy it.

Thanks to the crew at Cherry Street Pier for the hospitality! We had the most amazing fun. The kids enjoyed their outing. They went right to sleep without issue. I also want to thank Aversa PR for always putting on for the city.

If you’re looking for an option to have a little Summer fun, do what’s best for you and your family always. You have 3 options of fun for outdoor, social distance, great food and drinks, and ambiance of the water behind you to help!
