Mental Wellness and Self Care Queen

Not just because Nature Made sent me some sleeping goodies, but we dismiss the power of rest and what it does for the body and soul. As we rise for our Sunday moves, how did you sleep? Do you feel rested and motivated? Let’s discuss!

The Show Must Go On

I’ve sat many days up all night with lack of sleep. It doesn’t help. By the time I ended up falling asleep, the kids would be up and the day would need to start again. Being the type of mom I am I would get up and make breakfast and I would be irritated and cranky. The same with work and all other duties. Sleep or the lack thereof doesn’t stop the show. We like so many have to keep going.

Sleep and Stress

Sleep is a great mechanism to help us restore ourselves. However we seek every other form of self-care outside of sleep. You can take a bubble bath, listen to music, go to a spa day, and find that something as small as a nap or getting rest, is essential. When was the last time you got some rest? Not just went to sleep? Resting and sleep will help build your immune system, restore balance, and reduce stress. Some of the stress we may feel could really be due to lack of rest and sleep. It’s not that getting sleep will solve your problems but it will help you to wake up in power.

Problems with Sleep

When Covid-19 first hit when we were put under stay at home orders, I was anxious but got okay sleep. By the time George Floyd’s death and the unrest hit I became restless. You have read my blogs about this. I got the eye mask, weighted blanket, and sound machine. They all work. Sometimes you might want to find a natural way to fall asleep and stay sleep.

Sleep is Self-Care

I don’t know we don’t consider sleep being self-care but it is! It helps to realign our thoughts and our emotions. Sleep puts you into a better mood. Being more alert is key no matter what title you have in life. Lack of sleep is just as dangerous as drunk driving. So when you’re feeling like a nap is what you need and you feel as if you can take one, don’t put it off. Now I know for one how hard that can be. From work, raising my 3 kids, being a wife, running my blog, recording my podcast, etc. time to sleep doesn’t always come. But what I will tell you the moments I could have sleep but elected not to, are like stolen moments. Remember in kindergarten we would say we weren’t tired? Some days I want to go and get all of sleep I neglected.

Sleep Aids

It’s no secret that some need sleep aids. I tend to look for things that are more natural and non habit forming. Nature Made came through with a few products you might find useful.

  • Extended Release Melatonin: helps you fall asleep faster and stay sleep longer
  • Sleep and Recover Gummies: has magnesium to support muscle relaxation and L-theanine to relax your mind
  • Calm and Relax: has Sensoril Ashwagandha which helps reduce stress
  • Magnesium Gummies: supports muscle relaxation, heart, nerve, and bone health

All of these products again are designed to give you help in your sleep and rest pattern. I for one know Nature Made has me in mind when they sent it. With home school on the horizon in the next week or so, this is what I need to help me wake up rejuvenated and ready for the day!

Thanks Nature Made for the goodies! You can get your own at your local pharmacy or retailer like Target, Walmart; Walgreens, etc.

Sleep is Necessary

So as you start your week and you know you haven’t been sleeping well will you make sleep a priority?

Things you can do in addition to the sleep aids:

  • Sound machine
  • Turn off the television in your room
  • Place cell away from easy grabbing
  • Go to bed at a set time
  • Turn off lights to keep you sleep
  • Start and keep a sleeping journal
  • Exercise in the day to help promote relaxed muscles at night

I hope this helps. You can’t have Sunday Funday if you’re exhausted. This may be the reminder that’s it’s okay to lay back down. I for one am scheduling a nap for sure today! So here’s to better sleep!
