Mental Wellness and Self Care Queen

Happy Friday! Today’s check in will include conversations about race and race relations. Many may not agree with the opinions expressed. Anytime race or race relations are brought up it can be a touch conversation. The point of expressing my point isn’t to persuade you.

George Floyd

The country has been torn for a long time. So many people believe that racism simply doesn’t exist. It’s not happening and those who speak on it are simply just not able to assimilate. It’s way deeper than that but this isn’t a history blog. I will say that with George Floyd the question for me was Derek Chauvin going to be held accountable. I’m not going to lie, I didn’t have much hope. A lot of that lack of hope has so much to do with history.

Pin it for later

Bad Apples

I’ve been hearing all week about whether bad cops are a result or bad apples or if the whole tree is bad. I think the tree for me is bad. Let me be clear for me the tree is the whole system. I’ve encountered “good” cops! However the system is so messed up that it takes away from them. So until the system is fixed it puts pressure on everyone to be on forever high regards, turmoil, and unfortunately continued deaths without accountability.

Navigating in This Spacing

It’s hard. I am one for arguing but in the last few years, I don’t have it in me. I don’t have the energy to defend my stance. So I won’t. I’m not arguing with folks I know or strangers. I respect everyone’s ability to disagree. Those that I know that I’ve seen say the most salacious comments, I’ve been trying to work out within me why I feel upset. It’s simple. What someone else is saying, really shows who they are. So with that I’m weeding that out mentally and emotionally. I don’t have to be reactive. I want to be smart with the way I move.

Podcast Drop

So it’s Friday so that means that another podcast is available today! We are talking about the stress of this week, self-care, and finding joy! It’s imperative that we find a way to look for joy! Sometimes it comes from the most unlikely places. Joy doesn’t mean that life is perfect. So grab the episode!

Self-Care for the Week

Self care isn’t just for Sunday! It’s a daily acknowledgment of what you need from moment to moment to show up in the world at your best. Sometimes self care may include stepping back, resetting, and taking a break. Sometimes it’s saying NO! For me I’ve been pouring into myself by listening to podcasts!

My top 5 podcast are as follows:

Ratchet and Respectable by Demetria L. Lucas

Turn to Your Neighbor!

Deadass by Devale and Khadeen Ellis

Awaken the Awesome by Oliver Day

The Reclaimed Podcast by Whitney Alese

This Week’s Joys

I was able to have brunch with one of the bestie. We went to Troubles End Brewing. I had never been. The food was A1, the drinks were great, the atmosphere was probably the best part and lastly my date, Kyla was always great.

To see the recap of the brunch, go to my Tik Tok!

My second joy of the week was realizing how much I enjoy not leaving my house. Yes!

Lastly watching my kids be their silly selves is always a good way to end the week. I think often times as parents it’s up to us to foster an environment that allows for individuality. Allowing kids to be themselves even when that means you get a dose of yourself back!

This Week’s Lows

This is what separates me from other bloggers. I love amazing pictures and reels but the reality is we don’t always wake up motivated and crushing goals. This week with the case of Derek Chauvin I realized how much anxiety I was holding. I didn’t like that feeling.

The other low and it’s something that as parents we all have to find a way of balancing is our responses to our children. Not being overtly consumed with life that we forget to simply let kids be honest. Sometimes that honestly hurts our feelings. We have to be the adults and process it in a healthy way. I had a moment that I was able to recover but it doesn’t change that it happened.

So I know there’s a lot going on in the world, in your home, and in your body. Find a way to express that and live in a healthy lifestyle that even when you mess up you can process it well. I want you to find something inspiring, rejuvenating, and restful that brings you into a good mindset. Find that joy! We will be back next week! We also have content for your weekend too!
