Monday Motivation: Selfish Philly

Selfish Philly is the ultimate self care conference that you need here in Philadelphia. Developed and curated by Danielle Massi.  Danielle created the SELF(ISH)philly conference for women to have the ultimate #SelfCareSunday. She believes in the importance of mental, physical, emotional, and energetic health, and the impact holistic wellness has on our everyday lives. Massi has planned a day full of keynote speakers, local vendors, workout activations, space services, and much more! So what were the take aways for me and how do I plan to use that as today’s motivation?

Selfish Philly Speakers

There were a lot of amazing speakers for Selfish Philly. So many topics from grief to adjusting your crown and getting your currency. I loved the diversity in the speakers this year. This is my second time attending Selfish Philly and there were changes that I absolutely loved. Although the speakers were all dynamic there were a few that stood out to me and one of them was the Womb Panel.

This was hands down a must have conversation. Talking from everything from healthy periods to postpartum depression. I felt seen and heard in this conversation. So many things discussed in the realm of what it takes for us to do what we need to do to have healthy wombs. From who we let into our personal space to what we put in our bodies.

What does being Selfish mean to you?

Everyone tells you that being selfish is wrong. For instance my Mom always raised us to not have kids until we felt we were ready. It would be one of the most unselfish part of our life. If you weren’t willing to devout time to raising your kids don’t have them. She was right. However we also know that as a Mother for those who are, being a good Mom isn’t the Mom who never drops the ball, is always present with no time to herself, and is self absorbed into her Mother title.

A good mom is one that forges into what she wants and raises her children while never forgetting and living in her truth. I love being selfish. This means to me not being guilty when I want to have some time alone, girls trips or more. Leaving Mom guilt home so I can focus on me from time to time.

Claiming your Crowns and Currencies

I was super impressed with Iman Blackwell. She tore the stage up with her discussion on the many crowns that we as women carry. The ones that people see and the ones we don’t.  Knowing what crowns to leave behind as we change. We do change quite often. I loved the encouragement of allowing people in your community and building a community to help you achieve your goals is key. I know for me personally moving to Philly over 10 years ago my lack of community and unwillingness to step out to create one was a huge hinderance for me. Thank you Iman for your words of wisdom.

Selfish Philly is for All

I remember going to my first Selfish Philly Conference wondering who I would know there. At the time, I knew a few of the speakers but learned quickly that meeting new women was really the fun of it all. I enjoyed the women at this year’s conference too. For one, unlike many women conferences I didn’t meet the mean women. You know the ones who claim they are about collaboration and togetherness but in real life aren’t. The women were welcoming and warm.

My Personal Takeaways

I am the Queen of self care. We all know that we need to be reminded to take better care of ourselves. This comes from the inside out. For instance there are a few things that I struggle with when it comes to creation. I made a decision to reach out to a few people to help me with that. One of the ways I can strive in business and life is by adding those in my circle to make the dream a reality. I blocked off several dates on my calendar for this month for down days. This last few weeks reminded me I am working on negative E in my tank. So we do what we need to do and that is resting and allowing myself to be in that peaceful space.

How to Conference Like A Boss

Thank you to Danielle Massi, Philly PR Girl, and The Wellness Collective for having me. Also I got Danielle’s newest book, Shadow Work: Healing Processes to Unlock your Dream Life. I look forward to next year for sure. I came home from a weekend away, took the train and an uber to get there but my Sunday Self Care was made.
