Mental Wellness and Self Care Queen

Happy Friday and cheers to the weekend. Where are my parents that are getting super excited for the end of the year to come and go? This has been a restful week for me. I placed another no media at the beginning of the week to prevent me from having burn out. I ended it with an amazing birthday celebration. So, here’s the breakdown of what went down since our last Friday check in.

Kentucky Derby Style-Friday Rewind

I was invited to the Kentucky Derby party by Fearless Restaurant at Rosalie in Wayne. I went last year so I knew to expect great drinks, good food, and an amazing time. I am not sure how it was possible, but they made it even better this year. For instance, there was more food. They had a better registration process by having everyone come in at only one door. We were greeted with goodies and a Mint Julep. I took my husband this year and met up with one of the besties, Elle of Siponwhat. If you notice she and I tend to do a lot of events together.

Friday check in

There best dressed contests for best couple, woman, and man. It was great to see all the fashions that take place. It’s almost the best part of Kentucky Derby outside of the actual races that played in the background. They also had a live band and more. My husband really enjoyed himself and to be honest we take every opportunity to do a date night seriously. So, we had a great Saturday which before that was helmed with errands and more home organization.

Live with Governor Shapiro

If you missed my conversations with Governor Shapiro, make sure you go back to it Instagram to see it again. Keep in mind that a 15-minute conversation on mental health is almost impossible to have. The point of the live was to bring it to the forefront as well as let PA residents know that Shapiro has a plan to help with the real-life mental health that plagues the state.

Mental health happens everywhere and on so many levels. It’s important to find the support to help with private pay, resources like keeping 988 fully stocked with trained professionals and more. I will possibly be joining Governor Shapiro on a panel later this month for a Mental Health chat in the Black community conversation. As always I will keep you updated on it. I want to thank the staff of Governor Shapiro for his time speaking with me as well as his staff who helped me with setting it up.

Conversations with Toi Friday Podcast

This podcast I want to serve as a trigger warning. Anytime you talk about mothers or motherhood everyone’s emotions are all over the place. From child loss to loss of a mother and more these conversations will pull on hearts. The most difficult times of the year are around Christmas and Mother’s Day. So many people will be more irritated, hurt, or frustrated around this time. There are some who have a mother, but that mother is not active in their or their children’s lives. So please be kind to those around this time of the year. If you can listen to the episode, please do and share within your own communities.

Birthday Fun-Friday Recap

I spent my birthday at a media event. Although I had placed a media block on the beginning of the week, I took this event so my family and I could enjoy my birthday together having fun and being outdoors. We skated, ate, drank, bounced around and more. You can read more on the Blue Cross River Rink blog posted yesterday.

Birthday Dinner

I had an amazing time. After the fun with the family, I hung out with Elle of Siponwhat for an Italian dinner at A Mano. I had this BYOB restaurant on my list of restaurants to try for a while. I was glad that she and I enjoyed ourselves. We had the 4-course meal, and I couldn’t finish it. The food was hot, well made, and delicious. We sat in the corner, and it made for such a private experience. Not to mention, our waitress was amazing. I will go back in the future.

Thank you to all who reached out with a birthday greeting, gift, flowers, and more. It really made my day!

Friday check in

Tonight, I look forward to sending my oldest to her first formal. I can’t believe my little girl is growing up and off to High School next year. With, these next couple of weeks and her graduation I know will bring tears to my eyes. Trying to make sure that we take it all in and support her any way that we can is important to me. This weekend is Mother’s Day so I will be hopefully taking it easy and supporting my husband in the loss of his mother. No matter how much time has passed the pain will always exist for him. So, to all amazing mothers, I pray you have a relaxing weekend as well. I only have one request for my family and that is to let me have a peaceful day and we shall see what they do.
