Mental Wellness and Self Care Queen

This musical about the 6 wives of Henry VIII is sure to be one of the best shows I’ve seen this year. Mesmerizing, funny, entertaining and captivating we take a step back to see what these women would have said and done had they had the power to speak up. It’s a great show that unites all but empowers women of all ages.

Before you Go see Six

Six is playing from now until April 9, 2023. The show is shown from the Academy of Music on the Kimmel Cultural Campus. This show is only 90 minutes long with no intermission. Be on time. You do not want to miss a second of it. There will be bright lights flashing and at some point a puff of smoke should you sit closer to the front. I encourage you to get as close as you possibly can. As with most Kimmel shows there are bars waiting to serve you both alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks. If you have your Kimmel theatre cups, bring them with you. If not they are $5 a piece.

The Plot of Six

Each wife will tell their story of the perils of being the wife of Henry VIII. Each of them all went through something as he pursued having a male heir. They all have been traumatized and experienced hardships in their own way. From one Jane Seymour played by Amina Faye who died in child birth to Catherine Pare played by Sydney Parra giving up the love of her life to marry. Even though their stories happened so long ago many of the recurring themes still ring true today.

Age Appropriateness of Six

Although I didn’t take my kids to see it yesterday I will be taking them to see it. My youngest is 9 and I had no issues with the show. There are many times when they almost infer a curse word or a sexual expression but it’s overt that many times it will go over a child’s head. Again make the best decision for you and your family. My kids actually knew all of the songs as they belted them out this morning and I was impressed.

Length of the Show

As I stated before, the show is 90 minutes long and there is no intermission. Each number is magical and you don’t want to miss none of them. They are high impact songs that are giving so much meaning. They all build on one another. The premise is they are competing to see who had the most tragic situation. As we all know no matter how tragic their stories were, men in that time did as they pleased as the expense of women.

Musical of Six

This is the perfect show even for those who aren’t theatre buffs. It’s the perfect length of time for newcomers of theatre. There wasn’t a frown on anyone leaving. It was well song and the part I loved the most, was there was an all woman band playing. All of that girl power was beautiful to see. The numbers were good. My favorite one was Anna of Cleves played by Terica Marie. My goodness she has stage presence and didn’t care who saw it. The energy of all of the woman and their musical numbers built upon on each other as well as stood alone.

Again, I am going back to see this one. I loved it and honestly wanted more. The show is empowering and fully entertaining in every way by teaching and telling their stories. I was proud to be in the audience.
