Okay so I’m going to offend Future the rapper fans. If you have to ask who Future is, just use your Google now. I’m about to become old in a few lines and I make not one apology for it.

So it’s late. I just watched the Dave Chappelle Netflix special so me and sleep don’t go together right now. I decide to do my online browsing when I come across comedian Jesshilarious_ official on Instagram. I think her material is super funny. Somehow I missed this video about Future so I watch it and I am in full blown awe.  No I’m not excited. It’s more of a what in the hell is going on type of mood. So I do my due diligence and listen to “Mask Off” for myself. At that moment I immediately turn into my mom, grandmother, older aunts, the old church lady and the church mother all rolled into one. I didn’t have on pearls but I clinched them extra tight in my mind. Now let me be clear, I really don’t know many rappers who have never rapped about drugs. I’m not too much shocked by drug references in music. I’m more in awe of the chorus and the fact that this is what the people wanted? The chorus is as follows:

Percocets
Molly, Percocets
Percocets
Molly, Percocets
Rep the set
Gotta rep the set
Chase a check
Never chase a bitch
Mask on
Fuck it, mask off
Mask on
Fuck it, mask off
Percocets
Molly, Percocets
Chase a check
Never chase a bitch

So you really have to hear it to get the full effect but seriously?! This is where we are in the rap game? We just gonna just take a dive here? I have never thought that rappers needed to be role models to kids. I know that sounds bad but the reality is that unless kids bop makes a safe version of this outside of school my kids won’t hear this record. Im not a perfect parent but I can say with strong conviction that my kids are good.  But even as an adult, I just can’t. Call in the calvary. I’m tapping out.

I got questions at this point. Like we got the greats like Biggie, Tupac, Jayz, and many more and this is who we passing the rap baton to?! I mean Future may be the next rap boss but this is one of the laziest raps I’ve personally heard. In general it’s not really all on Future but those who buy into foolishness. If Rich Homie Quan forgetting Biggie verse at the 2016 BET hip hop awards wasn’t an indication of where rap is headed than this song has sealed the deal. We need rap to do better than this and those who dollars stamp this lollipop foolishness needs to stop too.

So we just raping like we just learned how to talk? Okay. I don’t see all the hoopla over this Future album and apparently I’m not supposed to.  But if we ever gonna get some rap greats we don’t need no more watered down, sell a record, no talent rappers paving the way. Sorry not sorry.
