a holy show at inis nua theatre

Inis Nua presents “A Holy Show” by Janet Moran and directed by Tom Reing. What started as a secret led to a hijacking of a 1981 Aer Lingus plane. All from touches of religion unfolded on this faithful flight, the crowd is sure to find laughter and religious tones in a light and hilarious parody. We follow Liam Mulshine and Rachel Brodeur the two actor show as they play all of the people on the flight and the crew. Its hilarious from first scene to the last. This flight takes a turn for the interesting and you would be foolish not to be in the seats to watch it.

Inis Nua Takes Safety at the Highest Level

Any of the Inis Nua shows you will be asked to provide proof of vaccination. You will also be asked to wear and keep your mask on as well. One thing is that even with the new way of life for theatre, that doesn’t stop the ability to have a great time with an even more welcoming spirit. I was so excited to be in the theatre again. If you ever have attended a show for Inis Nua you know how from the cast, to the patrons as well as the staff everyone is treated as family.

Keep things in Context

This show goes to 1981 (the year I was born) so that’s 40 years ago. The time where you could smoke online, move about a little more freely. So watching this hijacking keep in mind that this is definitely before September 11th. So the laughs that people drew when you see the patrons of the flight and their interaction are quite hilarious and light. The way we all laughed was beautiful.

What do you Believe in?

With its comedic timing of watching the passengers lives changes so drastically. The age old question of what you believe in still remains the same. We hold onto certain beliefs usually around religion until its challenged like it was on board the Aer Lingus. The passengers were being taken to France so that the hijacker (an ex Monk) could meet with the Pope. This quest to answer the secret of Fatima. A secret that was passed down. Much like religion we rely on what is taught to us. We rarely question it until we are confronted in ways that puts our livelihood into question.

Outstanding Acting

It’s one thing to take a production and have many actors/actresses play moving parts. To have 2 actors play all of the parts, takes skill. I loved how when the passengers were getting on the plane, both actors, did an phenomenal job of switching back and forth between characters, and accents, etc. so fluidly. Not one time were they not able to allow the audience or to get lost. The amount of skill it takes in the movements as well as the dialogue is no easy task. If you love comedy, both actors provide a heavy dose of it.

Adult Themed

This is a show that you want to leave little kids at home. I would suggest anyone under the age of 16 need not attend. There are adult themes that take places during this film. The adult language is definitely not appropriate for a child either. So make this a date night show before or after drinks and really enjoy yourself.

Logistics

The show itself runs about 66 minutes with no intermission. Allow yourself a few extra minutes to provide your proof of vaccination, go to the bathroom, and get settled. As always please remember to turn off your cell phone. I took a call right before but best believe I personally had my phone on airplane mode.

The Set

It was a simple set but the way production made it have the ability to transpose I loved it. Behind every great production is the actual production team. I must say I was so impressed with the entire play. I loved every bit. This is a must see. If this would be your first show since Covid-19, I implore you to get your tickets. The production of “A Holy Show” is going on until October 24th.

The last production  of Inis Nua that I saw was “How to be Brave?” Welcome back Inis Nua Theatre to your 38th season and what a strong way to welcome patrons into the theatre once again. This production ends October 24th. Get your tickets before it ends!

Thanks to Inis Nua Theatre and Aversa PR for having me.
