Mental Wellness and Self Care Queen

Self-care is learning the art of taking care of you. There are times when you can make it elaborate. Then there are times when it can be as simple as a nap. It’s the flow of being able to give yourself what you need when you need it. However, I do love going to the spa. There are many things that happen when you go. I am sharing my experience at Joseph Anthony Retreat Spa and Salon.

Before you go to Joseph Anthony Retreat Spa and Salon

With out saying you would need to select and book your service. There are many things like body scrubs, facials, massages, and unique experiences like mud baths in a Turkish bathtub too. The services for the caliber of the salon are well within the boundaries for budget savers. I took a tour well before booking so I could learn about the services and that made it easier for me to decide what to get done.

No matter what service you receive all services start off with a foot soak and complimentary drink. That drink can be water as well as champagnes, mimosas, and more. This is at least a 15–30-minute soak for your feet. It’s in a quiet dark room that prepares your mind for your service. Here are a few things that I would suggest you do while in the foot soak room:

  • Put phone on do not disturb
  • Ground yourself and your thoughts
  • Be still

Gym Anyone?

They have an onsite gym. If you are about your fitness, come to the gym to work out at least an hour and half before your scheduled service. This will allow you to work out, do the sauna or steam room and take your shower before your service. In essence depending on your service (s) you can be at the salon for hours. I got  two  services, and I was there for about  four uninterrupted hours. This included my sauna, steam room , and time in Brine room too.

What to Pack for your Experience

I got the Lemongrass Eucalyptus Body Polish. This means that my body was scrubbed from the neck down and it was the most relaxing thing. In my bag I packed the following:

  • Gym clothes
  • Shower shoes
  • Toiletries: they do provide shower gel, shampoo, and conditioner, lotion, and feminine products
  • Change of clothes
  • Swim suits
  • Hair products (they provide a hair dryer)
  • Book to read, notebook, and pen

Pro-tip for the Body Polish

If you know about a body polish, you know that they will wash you down and water is everywhere. I suggest you bring a waterproof turban. This is the one that I suggest. It will protect your hair even if you are fully submerged in water. They will provide you with things to cover up your personal areas that will still allow your body to be scrubbed clean.

Lemongrass Eucalyptus Body Polish at Joseph Anthony Retreat Spa and Salon

I exfoliate my skin about every time I take a shower. I like for to remove the dead skins from my body as often as possible. However, this body polish was almost spiritual. You lay on top of the Turkish bath, and they spray water all over your body. Not only is there a spout that is used but above your body is a shower like hoses that spray you down as well. When I was being scrubbed it wasn’t a quick run through. She took her time. Scrubbing each section of my body down with care.

When you complete one side you safely turn over and they repeat on that side of the body. Again, it’s a slow but steady process. My body felt cleaner then when my momma bathed me as a baby. During the process I took the time to take deep breaths. When I was lying on my stomach, I used that time to pray for the things that were heavy on my heart. The end you are left with skin that is baby smooth and refreshed.

Face Beat with Joseph Anthony Retreat Spa and Salon

It’s been a long time since I had a professional make up experience. So, I enjoyed what Dee did with my make up. She did a full on glam. What I appreciated being a beautiful chocolate woman was that their products were for everyone. Not one time did she have to mix several things to make my skin what it is. In addition, I didn’t have that ashy cast that can happen when makeup artist does not have the skillset to do melanated skin.

I felt beautiful when I was done. The immediate confidence that I felt is something I wish I could bottle for those days when I don’t feel my best.

The entire experience gets the highest rating that can be done. It’s a full-on salon that can provide services, waxing, hair, makeup and more. It’s affordable but the service and the customer service feels luxurious. They took the best care of me at a time when I needed it most this week. I highly suggest you use them as well.
