Flower Show

The 2023 Philadelphia Flower Show starts today. I went to the preview so I could enjoy it but also break down what you need to know before you go. It is back indoors at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. The entrance to the Flower Show is on 12th and Arch, 11th and Arch and on Market Street. What are the new things to be on the lookout? Safety and more?

Before You go to the Flower Show

The Flower Show being back at the Convention Center means that the flowers are able to be preserved. These larger than life displays took quite a lot to keep them in tip top shape when it was held outdoors the last few years. Make sure that whatever time that you want to be there that you add about 20-30 minutes to park. The garages close by will be congested. Pack some patience. I went to the Flower show at 12 noon and got to the parking deck at 11:30. It took a few rounds up and down to get a spot. People were a little agitated. Always stay safe and be courteous.

Once you are inside you will go through 2 metal detectors and a bag check. There is a separate middle lane for wheelchairs and strollers. Also you can rent wheelchairs and motorized scooters. You should purchase online and reserve a time.  Please if you have purchased your tickets online and it is heavily suggested to, have the QR code ready to scan. This will cut down on the wait times. Also wear comfortable shoes. The space is huge and there is a lot of walking.

Drinks are about $10-$15 in price from wine, beers, mixed drinks and canned cocktails

Other Household Things to Know Before you Go

There is a coat check that is $3 and cash only. It is worth checking your coat. There is plenty of space. As you get to the top of the escalator make a right and follow the signs. This is also the direction to go to the Kids Corner, Artisan Row, and other eateries. Depending on when you go it will be congested when you first walk into the Flower Show. The amazing archway is stunning to see. People will want to stop and take pictures and videos. Please understand that and work your way through in a calm fashion. I didn’t see anyone overly touching the displays but it goes without saying, as beautiful as everything looks follow the protocol that is outlined on each display to not touch.

Entrance to the Philadelphia Flower Show

As soon as you get close to the entrance the beautiful smell of flowers is welcoming. The arch way is gorgeous and as you go around it to get into the inside the flowers are all around you. It’s almost like an oasis of flowers. For me flowers are a form of self care. So even when I felt overwhelmed by the crowds, the flowers provided some level of calm. It is simply beautiful and mesmerizing and a great way to start the show. Once you are inside go to your right and start your journey.

Bloom Bar

I highly recommend that you stop at the Bloom Bar to get premade crowns. These crowns are such a beautiful way to enjoy the show and become apart of it. So many people asked me multiple times where I had gotten the crown. The headpiece stayed on the entire time and only feel apart as I was in the Reading Terminal before I left. When I say fell apart one flower came off and the rest of it is still in my fridge. You get to choose which one you want. Pro tip: let the owner help you place it on your head. I also brought a few bobby pins just in case and luckily didn’t have to use them. It was secured. I did my hair in anticipation of wearing the crown.

Studio Exotica

This colorful display was such a beauty to see up close. My camera doesn’t even do it justice. The bold colors, the mannequins and every detail that went into this exhibit was one that stuck out to me. In addition, I love that we were able to meet the designers. If you like bold pinks, oranges, and more you will love this display. Most of the exhibits are bold to go with the theme Garden Electric.

Kids Corner

As stated earlier the Kids Corner is located to the right before you go inside of the main show. In addition at the Kids Corner is a stroller parking. There is a lot to do in the Kids Corner like playing in potting soil, butterfly cocoon, plant tic tac toe and plenty of space for kids to safely roam. Also parents there are some eateries nearby in case you need a snack or more. The fact that it’s located in its own section is helpful for parents.

What to Do while at the Flower Show

There are plenty of things to do. If you are an early riser, consider getting tickets for the Early morning tour. There is a Photographer tour where you tour and see what are the key spots to photograph while there. If you like to design your own floral arrangement there is a Design and Dine. These require tickets. In addition the Butterflies Live will need tickets as well. Kids ages 2 and up will need a ticket. However the Kids Corner has free activities. Please follow the instructions of the staff to ensure that the butterflies stay inside the cocoon before you leave. If you believe you have a green thumb consider a potting party.

Don’t forget to support local businesses.

There is live performances everyday. Make sure you see the schedule to see who is performing. Don’t forget about Family Frolic Day. This is held on Sunday March 12th. Bring the family out and enjoy some events centered around teaching kids the art of nature. Just in time for dog lovers, bring your dog to the Convention Center on Friday, March 10th. This is open from 5-8pm. Dogs must be on a leash and do not need an extra ticket.

After Hours Party

This is a 21 and older event. I loved last year’s. We had a ball. There was and still will be live entertainment. Plenty of drinks and food options and more. This is the party of all parties. The theme is Garden Noire. Wear your all black and a masquerade mask. Be prepared to dance. Everyone no matter their skill level hits the floor. Tickets are needed and even if a guest is 18 they are still not permitted with a guest that is over 21.

Flower Show

I enjoyed so many elements of being on the inside for the show. This as my 3rd show, but 1st time indoors. The pros is that no matter the weather, if the Convention Center is open you can enjoy it. The staff were pleasant. Don’t forget to get your hand stamped should you leave and want to re-enter. Follow all signs while there, be respectful, and if in doubt ask the staff they will assist you. So now that you know what to do do before you go, when are you going? I plan to be back for another day to see what I didn’t see the first time and then for the After Hours Party.

This is a family friendly event. I highly recommend this for a date day/night, solo trip, self care moment, Parents day out, and more. Make this event what you need it to be.
