A Philly Girl’s Escape: Our Girl Dinner at Monterey Grill in New Jersey

Sometimes the best reset isn’t a full vacation — it’s a quick drive out of Philly with people who fill your cup. That’s exactly what our night at Monterey Grill in New Jersey turned into: a mini escape wrapped in incredible food, genuine hospitality, and the kind of laughter that reminds you why community matters. There’s something special about stepping outside your usual rhythm, even if it’s just for an evening. The air feels different. The conversations hit deeper. The joy feels earned.

Girl Dinner, Creator Edition

This wasn’t just dinner — this was girl dinner with my fellow content creator friends. You know the kind of night where everyone shows up ready to eat, laugh, create, and hype each other up. We came equipped with our Yap agenda, which basically means:

  • we’re eating well
  • we’re documenting everything
  • we’re supporting each other’s platforms
  • and we’re having a good time doing it

There’s something powerful about being in a room with women who understand the grind — the planning, the editing, the storytelling, the deadlines, the brand boundaries, the creativity that never turns off. When creators get together, it’s not just dinner. It’s a brainstorm. Also it’s a therapy session. It’s a celebration. And Monterey Grill was the perfect backdrop for all of it.

A Warm Welcome, Just Like Opening Night

Walking back into Monterey Grill felt like stepping into a memory I didn’t realize I missed. I attended the opening party year or so ago, and the energy was unforgettable — vibrant, welcoming, full of promise. What amazed me is that they’ve kept that same magic alive.

From the moment we walked in, the staff greeted us like family. Not in a performative way, but in that genuine, “we’re glad you’re here” way that you can’t fake. The kind of hospitality that makes you exhale. The kind that makes you feel seen.

It’s rare to find a restaurant that maintains its opening-night sparkle long after the ribbon is cut. Monterey Grill still has it — and then some.

The Food That Stole the Show

Let’s talk about the food because Monterey Grill did not come to play. Every dish felt intentional, beautifully crafted, and full of flavor.

The Vegan Crab Cakes

I’m still thinking about them. Crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, seasoned so well that you forget they’re vegan. They were the kind of appetizer that makes you pause mid-conversation because your taste buds need a moment to process what just happened.

The Lovely Lychee Cocktail

Light. Floral. Refreshing. It’s the kind of drink that makes you close your eyes after the first sip. The kind that pairs perfectly with girl talk, laughter, and a night where nobody is rushing. If you’re a cocktail lover, this one deserves a spot on your must-try list.

The Pimento Cheese–Stuffed Artichoke

Have you ever had one? Because I hadn’t — and now I’m convinced it’s a life-changing experience. Creamy. Savory. Unexpected. It’s the kind of dish that makes you rethink everything you thought you knew about artichokes. It was bold, comforting, and absolutely unforgettable.

Chef Andrew Pearce: The Heart of the Night

One of the biggest highlights of the evening was meeting Executive Chef Andrew Pearce. When I say he took care of us, I mean he took care of us.

Chef Andrew didn’t just send out dishes — he shared stories, checked in on us, and made sure we felt welcomed and appreciated. You can feel when a chef cooks with intention, and Chef Andrew is one of those rare talents who brings both artistry and heart to the table.

His presence elevated the entire experience.
Chef’s passion was contagious. His hospitality was unmatched.

It’s one thing to enjoy a great meal. It’s another to feel connected to the person who created it. Chef Andrew made the night feel personal — and that’s something you can’t put a price on.

The Vibes: Laughter, Creativity, and Connection

There’s something magical about being surrounded by women who get it — who understand the balance of family, work, creativity, and self-care. Our girl dinner was full of laughter, inside jokes, content ideas, and those “wait, let me get this shot real quick” moments that only creators understand.

We talked about life.
Also We talked about goals.
We talked about the next big thing we want to create.

And in between all of that, we ate well, sipped our Lovely Lychees, and soaked in the moment. It was the kind of night that feeds more than your stomach — it feeds your spirit.

A Night That Felt Like a Reset

What I love most about Monterey Grill is how restorative it feels. A short trip away from Philly gave us space to breathe, laugh, create, and reconnect. It reminded me that joy doesn’t always require a plane ticket or a long itinerary. Sometimes it’s just across the bridge, waiting with a plate of vegan crab cakes and a cocktail that tastes like a soft exhale.

Why Monterey Grill Is Worth the Drive

If you’re looking for a place that blends quality, comfort, creativity, and community, Monterey Grill is worth the drive every single time. Whether it’s your first visit or a return like mine, you’ll leave with a full stomach and an even fuller heart.
