Mental Wellness and Self Care Queen

Love is an open door and you need to see Disney’s Frozen. This iconic show surpasses anything you have seen in the past. From the theatrics to the talent this show brings out the best in what the movie represents.

Disney Theatrical Productions under the direction of Thomas Schumacher presents Frozen, the North American Tour, music and lyrics by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez and book by Jennifer Lee directed by Michael Grandage with: Lauren Nicole Chapman (Anna)

Know Before you go to Frozen

The show is 2 hours and 20 minutes long with one intermission. Plan to get to the theatre in enough time for coat check should you use it, getting concessions, or purchasing take home items. Remember since the intermission won’t happen until a little over an hour take the kids or yourself ti the bathroom. Although you’re gonna want to, there is no video or cameras allowed. Grab your selfie before the show starts.

Disney Theatrical Productions under the direction of Thomas Schumacher presents Frozen, the North American Tour, music and lyrics by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez and book by Jennifer Lee directed by Michael Grandage with: Caroline Bowman (Elsa), Caroline Innerbichler (Anna), Mason Reeves (Kristoff), F. Michael Haynie (Olaf), Austin Colby (Hans), Jeremy Morse (Weselton)

In addition it’s recommend for kids 6 and up. Fair warning due to the darkness of the theatre, as a parent make your own decisions if you feel your child is old enough for it. There are several parts in the production that are not for kids and you may need to use your judgement. My youngest who I took is 10 and I had to explain some parts.

Is the production different than the movie?

Yes and no. It follows the movie for the most part. However like all broadway shows, it adds a few things to round out the story. In my opinion they are subtle but necessary parts. This is one show that you will leave talking about. This makes it a great one to introduce a younger audience.

The Theatrics of Disney’s Frozen

From the start the magic that you know that comes with Disney is on full display. By the time you hit intermission you will scream. It’s not scary by the way but it’s mesmerizing. You know I don’t do spoiler alerts. The show is that took that you will want to see it twice. If you been following me through my theatre reviews it’s a rarity that I say that.

There was no expense set aside for this production. The budget was well spent. From the costumes, lighting, and more I was impressed. A special shout out to the entire production team.

Stand out Performances

Of course Elsa and Anna did an amazing job. The entire movie is about their relationship. However there were a few others that grabbed my attention and didn’t let it go. Evan Duff who plays Weselton and Renée Reid who played Bulda. Both brought in that extra flair and had me onlooking with excitement. You will immediately know what I mean as soon as you see them make their entrance.

Emma Origenes as young Anna and Savannah Lumar as a young Elsa really outdid themselves in their roles. The first introduction of who these characters were helped shaped how they were in the rest of the production. Even though I’ve seen the movie a thousand times it didn’t see the younger characters as well as I did until this production.

Musical Numbers in Disney’s Frozen

The talent in the entire cast is unmatched. As someone who has sung her whole life when I go to musicals I’m listening for notes and harmonies. Several times I screamed out loud, “my God.” Why?! The notes were on point. The cast can sing and it is necessary when belting out the biggest ballads of all time on Frozen!

Overall Performances of Disney’s Frozen

This show is a solid 10/10. If you love the movie you will fall back in love with the Broadway performance. This is a not to be missed show. From the time you walk in and until you leave you will be captured in the moments and it won’t let you go.

After Party with the Cast

I literally forgot that there was an after party until I got there. The way Ensemble Philly Arts puts a party together is insane. From Olaf carrot cake, chocolate fondue, the drink of the show, The Snow Queen, and more we had a blast. In addition I love that we get to interact with the cast. My daughter absolutely beamed with joy meeting Anna, Lauren Nicole Chapman. She was gracious, full of energy, and kind. After her performance she still made sure that she entreated everyone she met. All of the cast did the same.

Make sure you get your tickets now. This show ends April 7th and in my opinion make great spring break events as there are matinee shows you can go see too. Bring your Ensemble Arts Philly cups so you can save money and enjoy a Snow Queen. Want to make one at home? They have provided the video guide to make one!
