If you are a Michael Jackson fan you will love MJ the Musical. My husband and I took a trip to New York and New Jersey this past weekend and hands down this is a must see.

Before you go and see MJ the Musical

The show was packed which only means that word of mouth is working for this production. Do yourself a favor and purchase the tickets ahead of time. As far as tickets and seating we sat in the 4th row center and honestly it’s an amazing view. I would suggest to get into the 1-6 rows for the best views. The show is for all ages but keep in mind that there are some themes that aren’t suitable for younger children.

Many know of Michael Jackson’s stardom and his rocky relationship with his father and alleged drug use. These themes are not dodged in this production. Use caution when viewing. You can purchase food and drinks in the lobby. If you are looking to purchase food I would get to the theatre at least 30 minutes before. Parking is tight in New York. Add an additional 30 minutes for it. We stayed in New York so we checked in and went straight to the theatre via Uber.

Is MJ purely entertainment?

The answer is both yes and no. Although the pure nostalgia of hearing these iconic songs revamped is enough, the show takes you on a roller coaster of emotions. I saw grown men struggling with issues as they demonstrated Michael’s relationship with his father and family. The songs are dynamic too. No one can do Michael Jackson like Michael Jackson. However this production does a great job capturing his essence.

Art of Entertaining

Michael Jackson was clearly a perfectionist but that’s how you become the Greatest Performer of all time. The stress that Michael put himself through was overwhelming. We get to see Michael’s story as less performer and more human as he should have had the opportunity to live. In the production they run through various moments of his life. The pure talent from the cast is uncanny.

Musical Chops

It’s not even a surprise that this cast is multi-talented. From the performers to the singers you get to witness the joy of music. Elijah Johnson (as Michael Jackson) embodies not only the talent but the mannerisms. I was skeptical going into this because I wanted to believe it was going to be an impersonation that would be short lived. From the opening scene I held my breath and was relieved to see that Elijah was made to play this role. Due to Michael’s outstanding personality and stage presence critics would love to compare. However Elijah’s performance was his and he blessed the stage with everything he had.

MJ the Musical Talent

Every person who graced the stage was a star in their own right. My favorite outside of Michael played by Elijah Johnson was Ayana Jackson who played Kate and Katherine Jackson. Her voice was mesmerizing. It was memorable and bone chilling. Also Tavon Olds-Sample who played a young Michael was great too. MJ the Musical kept showcasing Michael through the years including a young played by Christian Wilson. This young star captivatedthe stage. During intermission all I heard was the praise of how well he held his own.

Purchasing of MJ the Musical Tour Gift Shop

I normally don’t desire to purchase items from all of the shows I’ve attended. However I wanted the items from the show were really memorable. So when you see me on the go drinking from my tumbler, know how excited I was and still am.

My husband was in pure joy to see this show. Michael Jackson has always been one of his favorite artists. These last few years have been hard but my husband’s smile was genuinely felt. He most likely will see it again soon. The show is impactful and I highly recommend it.
