self improvement

September is Self Improvement month. Although it’s almost over don’t let the frustrations that self improvement get you down. As much as we know that there are areas of our life that we need to change, don’t let it overtake you. Self improvement isn’t a once a month or day notion. Everyday that we are on this Earth is a chance to do better. This seems extremely daunting. What are some ways you can take a lesson on improvement and apply it daily?

Self Improvement: Be an Active Participant in Life

There are many times in life when depressive moods, death in your family or friends, or simply life happening when you time out. These moments are extremely hard. It’s not that you aren’t aware of them. The more life happens sometimes the desire to be active in the choices that you make seem dim. This gets increasingly hard if you have those around you seemingly to pass you by. Take heart. This is a temporary feeling. Deal with what is making you feel unattached to life. This may be a time of reflection and honesty. Being honest with yourself if always the first step.

Take a Step Back to Step Up

Everyone tells you that in order to make a new path you have to be willing to mark a new one. Once the reality that you haven’t treated yourself with the amount of compassion and love that you need, take a step back to step up. This means go through the areas of your life and find where you misstepped. After you find that misstep-make a plan of attack. Rome wasn’t built in a day and neither will your issues vanish overnight. Don’t be afraid of small steps. We know that it would be easy if you could leap over them in a day but that may not be your reality and that’s okay. Small steps doesn’t always mean you are losing the race to victory. As a runner you know that some small steps keep your footing sure. Don’t despise others as they run pass you. Anyone who knows how races are won, the fastest runner gets tired. The stead runner beats their own odds. You got this.

Self Improvement: Making your Action Plan Work

We all know that accountability comes in many forms. You can get an accountability partner. This is someone who checks in with your goals. Accountability partners work if you are willing to be honest. Telling someone you ate the right foods knowing you and In-N-Out Burger had a tussle is one thing. Be honest. FYI, there is nothing wrong with a burger every now and again for my burger lovers. Another form of accountability comes in the form of regular self check ins. When you go to bed, write down your wins. Your losses are always prevalent-give yourself credit. Be easy with yourself too when you don’t measure up. You have the tenacity to make better decisions the next time, the next meal, another day, and  so forth.

So as we add self improvement to our lives, its okay to be honest, make an action plan, celebrate your wins and don’t let the loss weigh on you more than necessary. Use this fuel to finish your month but your year. There’s nothing you can’t do. Go and make it happen.
