Mental Wellness and Self Care Queen

Yesterday was the first day of Summer and Father’s Day! I hope all the amazing fathers had a great day! As we move towards officially celebrating Summer I want to remind us to enjoy this season. What are some of the things you can look forward to?

Getting Outside More

Nothing says Summer than Summer heat! Make sure that you’re prepared. You should be drinking more water and staying hydrated. I usually dislike the taste of water so I add fruit in my water to help with that. Also sparkling water with and without fruit helps too. Also I make sparkling water popsicles with fruit. The kids think it’s soda but it’s not! It’s a win win for parents trust me.

Sunscreen

You don’t wear sunscreen just in the Summer months! It should be worn all year long. Makeup lines now have sunscreen built into it too! Protect your skin! Some of my favorite brands are Neutrogena and Black Girl Sunscreen!! Both work well on my skin and both are available at Club Target! That’s Target for my non Target lovers!

Summer Book Reading

A lot of people read in the Summer. I take the kids to get books and we just dive in! Also it’s a great way to kill time laying on the beach or sunbathing at the pool. FYI I love to lay out and sunbath with my sunscreen. If you’re looking for some preorder books that will come out later I preordered the following:

Feeding the Soul by Tabitha Brown

You got anything stronger? by Gabrielle Union

My current Summer book reading can be found in my Amazon store!

Adventures

It’s time to make memories and go on adventures. That can come from road trips, to family get togethers, staycations, or vacations. The premise is to make sure you’re out and having fun. Fun can be safe! Fun can be with a small gathering! Find ways to increase some of the fun as the days progress. I talk about it all the time but time waits for no one! Before you know it, Summer will be over and the hustle of Back to School etc. will be here! Use your PTO wisely even if you’re working from home.

Work Guilt

Working from home isn’t easier. So don’t let your supervisor or boss make you feel guiltily from taking a vacation. It’s your time to use. Just because you’re working from home it’s not a green light for built in fun! Working from home is hard. If you add having a family it makes it even more stressful. We all have learned that balancing life at home and separating the two aren’t always easy!

Plan Ahead

Every year people sit in their homes clocking someone else’s vacations. Why? Unless they personally hit you up for funds for traveling, mind the business that pays you! Leave people to do their own thing! Nothing is wrong with people doing what’s best for them and their families! Even if you think that someone is mishandling their funds. It’s theirs to mishandle! Take your vacation! I’m speaking from experience. When I was in my 20s I had a word for everyone but as you mature and grow you know better. Leave people alone! Let people do them while you’re doing you! Save up or plan ahead to do the things you want.

Try New Food or Restaurants

Yes be adventurous. Although I consider myself a foodie as well as someone who ventures out in Philly often, there are restaurants I will be trying this Summer. It’s important to try new things. Instead of the normal foods I eat often, adding more recipes is key too. There are some foods that pair well in the Summer. Try them! There are Summer cocktails to try, try them! Don’t be afraid to open your palate!

As we continue in this first week of Summer maybe you had no plans at all! That can be relaxing too. If you’re keeping close to home don’t just sit around. We learned this past year and a half that you can bring anything to your home. Increase the fun. Increase the adventures! Let’s Summer well!
